DiIT responsible for Supply Chain Management (SCM) of the new VW Polo Wiring System
06.04.2009
The countdown is on - the market launch of the new Polo in Germany is scheduled for the end of June. Advance sale and production of the 4-door version have already been started. As with the predecessor model, DiIT is part of the project and responsible for the complete Supply Chain Management of the new Polo wiring system.
Not only assembly of the wiring system is supported by a DiIT system, but also all of the logistics processes in JIT/JIS from goods receipt up to the supply of wiring systems and door harnesses directly to the assembly line of the car manufacturer.
At the logistics center, to which the customer-specific Polo wiring systems and the door harnesses are being delivered, the DiIT PLS system implements and controls integrated processes in goods receipt consistent with advance dispatch notification, as well as warehouse logistics, and JIT/JIS sequencing in accordance with the assembly sequence of the automotive plant. Especially with regard to the sequencing process of the door harnesses in JIS in special racks, customer-specific supply processes in accordance with the assembly sequence have been implemented.
The DiIT PLS JIT-Interface to the car manufacturer provides the logistics center on a continuous basis with up-to-date information about the state and progress of planning. The JIT-Sequence Monitor in PLS checks the transmitted assembly sequence for consistency and recognizes gaps, that have to be taken care of in the sequencing process. Discrepancies will be revealed and can be dealt with ahead of time, dependent on their severity and urgency either manually or with integrated automatic processes.
With a separate interface, further planning information from the automotive plant can be taken over by the PLS system at the logistics center (PLS 4). On selection, and using internal channels, this information will be automatically forwarded to the PLS at the production site of the wiring system (PLS ADL) and will be used in PLS ADL for production control. In return, PLS ADL informs the logistics center about order progress at the production site.
Due to the flow of information in both directions, all processes in production and logistics can be optimally synchronized and tuned to the processes in car assembly. After PLS ADL at the beginning of the year, PLS 4, the second part of the Supply Chain Management for the new Polo Wiring System, followed in the first half of February and was successfully put into operation.
